Wed Feb 17 7pm
Indianapolis Rugby Night Out at Pacers Game FUNraiser
Conseco Fieldhouse
We will be attending the Indianapolis Pacers game v.s. the San Antonio Spurs. Tickets are $25 ($8 of that will go back to the club!) It is a great deal with the Pacers and we can all enjoy a game together. I am working on trying to get them to mention something about our spring season during the game. Anyways make sure to invite friends and get lots of people out, because the more people come out the more money the team will make. Tickets can be purchased at:
https://www.pacersgroups.com/tickets/163/ Password: Rugby

I hope everyone is ready for a fun and exciting spring season. We are still hammering out our indoor practice facility, but expect to begin rugby practice the first week of Feb or the week after Valentine’s Day (for all you romantics).

Impalas Clinch Playoff Birth

buffalo2

The Indianapolis Impalas Division I side punched their ticket to the Midwest Rugby Playoffs with a 32-22 victory in Buffalo. The Impalas can go into the playoffs no lower than the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference, but can move up to the 2nd seed with a victory over Cincinnati next weekend. The playoffs work as such:

On November 7, Eastern #1 plays Western #1, Eastern #2 plays Western #2, and Eastern #3 plays Western #3.
The winner of 1st v. 1st wins the Midwest. The loser of that game plays the winner of 2nd v. 2nd for the #2 seed out of the Midwest.

The loser of that game is 3rd.

The loser of 2nd v. 2nd plays the winner of 3rd v. 3rd for #4 in the Midwest.

Impalas Video and Picture Sections Combined

The Indianapolis Impalas website has now combined the photo and video sections into one “Media” section to help stream line this information and allow more user interaction of comments on videos and pictures.

In other media news, IUPUI’s JagTV will be out at the October 10th Division 1 game v.s. the Detroit Tradesmen to shoot the game and interview player/president Evan Roberts about playing rugby and being a student at IUPUI for a segment called “Students After Hours.”

Mid Season Round Up

So far it has been a busy season for the Indianapolis Impalas Division 1 and Division 3 sides. Both sides are sitting at 1-2 in their respective leagues and things are continuing to look up.

On the Division 1 side, the Impalas have had close hard fought games each week. This was to be expected as every week in Division 1, teams are going to battle to the final whistle. The Division 1 Impalas started out with a tough match versus the Eastern Conference leading Detroit Tradesmen (3-0) in Detroit. With a few players out of position due to injuries, the Impalas were still able to keep it close in a 14 to 27 loss. The following week in their home opener, Indianapolis defeated Buffalo (0-3) to claim their first Division 1 victory 15-10. They followed up their first win in Division 1 with a last second loss versus the Cincinnati Wolfhounds (2-1) in Cincinnati 29-33. Things are looking up for the Impalas though as 2 of their remaining games are at home and their team is healthy. The Division 1 squad will spend first weekend of October at home during their bye week and will play next on Oct. 10 at home v.s. the Detroit Tradesmen.

The Division 3 Impalas started out their season on a high note with a 46-14 home victory over Scioto Valley (1-2) at home. Going into the next 2 games, Indianapolis had some missing pieces in their lineup and lost 0-38 v.s. White River (2-2) (Home) and 15-25 v.s. Queen City (2-1-0) (Cincinnati). Even though the Division 3 Impalas lost their first away game of the season, major strides were made and the team is operating more as a unit everyday. They will be traveling October 3 to Cincinnati to play the Cincinnati Kelts (3-1).

Impalas on Fox 59

August 24, 2009

Sunday night the Indianapolis Impalas were invited to be guests on the second episode of Fox 59 Indy Sports Nation Overtime.  Also, on the show were the UINDY cheerleaders and Colts safety Melvin Bullit.  Six lucky members of the club got to dine on Wings from Wing Stop and be part of the program.  Some of the things mentioned were the Impalas 3rd place National Finish last spring and being voted Metro Mix’s: Sexiest Alternative Sports Team.  Make sure to keep watching Fox 59’s Indy Sports Nation Overtime this fall as there may be some highlights from the Indianapolis Impalas Fall Season.
