Savannah 2008
From: Carson Mouser
Date: March 19, 2008
We had a great group of individuals go on this trip and I hope everyone had as good a time as I did. Evan did a fantastic job in organizing this trip!
The RVs were a great idea. Note for next year, make sure the water in the RV is on prior to using the facilities. They back up easily (Especially with people who use a case of TP every time they go, MAC). I'm not allowed to drive in the future. Apparently the shoulders are not part of the road. Although Kenny's ability to ride over every curb in Savannah was pretty good. The winner of the food flinging war between RV's goes to Kevin's RV for the canned cheese left all over the side of our RV. Evan even admitted to me:
"I probably side swiped about 3 cars just trying to park my RV in Savannah. Luckily, the lady who was running the lot was very hush, hush about the situation since I paid her double for our parking spot! The only regret my group had was apparently our parking lot was on the opposite side of Savannah as the large party, so we had to walk about 3 miles just to go back to the RV." - Evan
Rat managed to fall asleep 5 times while driving. We managed to stay alive due to Joe Walker's keen eye as copilot. Joe must moon light as a marathon driver, he drove most of the way to Savannah and stayed awake the whole ride home.
Friday most of us enjoyed the parade and River Street Downtown. Gino was especially entertaining. Watching Kenny flip him around like a rag doll added to the entertainment. Gino's never give up attitude was awe inspiring.
Saturday was full of excitement. Especially at night when just as Evan sat down to eat at the buffet, the entire area went dark. A tornado hit the main power station so the whole city and surrounding towns had no power. Kenny was disappointed as his group, decided to head back to the hotel, instead of staying downtown, where potential drunken stories could have been created and relived for years to come.
We went 1-2 in the tournament. We were in the premier division. With only a fraction of our starting side, several new players and college players not used to this level, we still showed some moments of great rugby.
Joe stepped up and played tight head. He had an amazing run in the second game. He threw a stiff arm that instantly turned the opposing fullback limp. You would never know Dave Snyder had major surgery on his arm. He made some great tackles. Wets did a great job at scrumhalf. Steve from Michiana was a gamer, playing to the whistle. Great job at hooker. Rookie Nick got to see his first action in a game. Gino's play at 8-man was nothing like his wrestling abilities. He played as hard as he drank. Wing AJ proved to have both speed and an ability to see down the field. Everyone played hard and there were other moments of great rugby.
This was great time and the guys from IU and other schools clubs stepped up. I look forward to seeing these guys play for Indy in the future.
